The Parks Division of the Public Works Department maintains and beautifies both active and passive recreation areas in Cheshire.

Bartlem Recreation Area

Located on Route 10 across from Cheshire High School, Bartlem Recreation Area was named for the Town's first Recreation director, Richard C. Bartlem who served as Director from 1968-1993. Park amenities include the Community Pool, a 90 foot baseball diamond, soccer, lacrosse, Kids In Motion playscape, a pavilion, picnic area, community gardens and skate park.

Cost: Free

The Cheshire Skate Park is an unmonitored recreational facility. All users will be participating at their own risk. Protective equipment including helmets, kneepads, elbow pads and wrist guards are highly recommended. No bikes are allowed inside the Skate Park. If the gate is locked the park is closed to the public. Call the Parks & Recreation office at 203-272-2743 for more information.

PavilionDiamondVolleyball

Located on Route 10 toward the Cheshire/Southington town line, this large park has 75 acres, of which 25% are set aside for active recreation and the park has a basketball court, softball fields, a pavilion, picnic area, theater and tennis courts.

The 2.9 mile Linear Park was dedicated May 22, 1994 and was designed to create a safe place for fitness activities along the Farmington Canal including walking, bicycling, running, in-line skating, cross country skiing and a place for people with disabilities.


RULES & ETIQUETTE

  • Park open from sunrise to sunset.

  • Dogs must be on a leash and restricted at all times to the right of the path.

  • Animal waste must be cleaned up and disposed of.

  • No horses, skateboards or unauthorized vehicles allowed.

  • Park users must stop and yield at all intersections.

  • Stay on right when using the 10 foot wide paved path.

  • Passing is allowed, give an audible warning and pass safely.

  • The trail is not a speedway. Max speed is 10mph.

  • Please be considerate of Park users and use common courtesy on the trail.

Located on North Brooksvale road along the Linear Park, Lock 12 contains a pavilion, picnic area, a restored 150 year old canal lock (one of the original Farmington Canals locks) and a museum which is open by appointment only.

Mixville Recreation Area

Located on Notch Road near the Cheshire/Prospect town line, this park has two pavilions, picnic areas, a beach with swimming and fishing in Mixville Pond. Sledding is available when the weather permits. Parking fee during summer season.

Located off Mountain Road, this area is a natural area with nature trails, a diversity of habitat, wild flowers and a water course that falls 80 feet.
